Conditions for running were nearly ideal at Saturday’s Central Dutch Invitational, as cross country runners from four area high schools traversed the Central College course for the prep portion of the meet – hosted by Pella High.

The late addition of squads from Dowling Catholic, Cedar Falls and Johnston High Schools made the field exponentially more challenging, as the highest finishing local team was the host Pella High boys in fourth place in the team standings.  Knoxville’s boys took 7th place, Pella Christian was 13th and PCM claimed 16th.  Individually, Knoxville’s Wick Cunningham was a medalist at 7th place, as was Pella’s Evan Jones – who finished three spots back in tenth.  Jake Lensing came in 44th to pace Pella Christian, and Rhett Gainey was 60th to lead the way for PCM.

In the girls’ race, Pella took fifth in the team standings; while Knoxville was seventh.  Gabi Meirick finished in 16th place to narrowly miss medaling for the Lady Dutch, and Courtney Hughs led the way for the Panthers – finishing 52nd.  PCM and Pella Christian’s girls did not field full varsity squads, but were led by 27th and 73rd place finishes by Rachel Peter and Marina Shannon, respectively.  Click the links below for complete results.
