It was a happy homecoming for Pella, as they rolled to their third consecutive victory; shutting out Chariton 35-0 Friday night. The Little Dutch got the offense rolling early, turning two of their first four possessions into touchdowns. Quarterback Josh De Waard scored on runs of 56 and 35 yards, respectively, putting Pella on top 14-0 after one quarter. Head Coach Jay McKinstrey said their early start was key in the win. “We were kind of disappointed with that three-and-out,” the Little Dutch coach said. “We just didn’t seem like we were in sync very well or in very good rhythm. It was great to have a defensive hold, Josh made a great run, and we felt it was important to get on them early tonight.” Pella led 28-0 at halftime, and Bryce Bortscheller added the final score of the game when he caught a De Waard touchdown toss in the third quarter. Pella improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in Class 3A District 8 and will travel to Norwalk Friday night. Both teams are tied for the district lead and the winner will secure sole possession of Class 3A District 8. You can hear Friday’s game live on 92.1 FM KRLS.
