Van Meter scored 26 unanswered points in the second half to defeat Pella Christian 33-13 on a cool Friday night in Pella. Trailing 13-6 at intermission, the Bulldogs took the opening drive of the third quarter in for a touchdown to claim the lead for good. The Eagles appeared ready to answer, but a Michael Mason fumble at the Van Meter 13 yard line led to another long Bulldog touchdown. On the ensuing possession, a Coltin Collins pass was intercepted and returned for another touchdown. Bulldog quarterback Brandon Brittain accounted for 350 of Van Meter’s 406 yards, throwing for 204 and a touchdown and running for 146 and a score. The Eagles were led by Michael Mason’s 158 yards, while Derek Van Kooten added 79 rushing and 47 receiving. The Eagles fall to 5-2 on the season and 2-2 in district play. Up next is a road trip to Colfax-Mingo on Friday night.
