It was a good night for many of our local runners at yesterday’s Little Hawkeye Conference cross country meet at Oskaloosa. The Pella High boys finished first overall with 33 points and the Knoxville Panther boys finished third overall with 87. On the girls’ side of things, the Lady Dutch finished second only to Grinnell, while the Panther girls finished in sixth. On the boys’ varsity side, Pella had six athletes earn All-Conference honors, including seniors Evan Jones, Keegan Fitzsimmons, and Matt Klein, all cracking the top ten at the meet. Other All-Conference honors went out to Wade Pingel and Ryan Sievers. The overall winner of the meet was a Panther, however, and that was Wick Cunningham, with a time of 16:17, 17 seconds faster than second place finisher Jones. Cunningham and teammate Brad Shearer both earned all-conference honors for Knoxville. For the girls, there were three members of the Lady Dutch who came away with all-conference honors: seniors Gabi Meirick, Victoria Kleven, and Ashley Kirkland. There was one runner for the Knoxville Panthers girls’ team that earned all-conference, Courtney Hughs, with a personal best time of 16:59. Next up for both squads is a trip to the State Qualifying Meet at Central College October 18th.
