A number of people in Marion County will be fighting world hunger this Sunday as CROP Walks are held in Knoxville and Pella. Pat Finan, with the Knoxville CROP Walk, says that proceeds from the walk are used to fight hunger both locally and worldwide. 25% of funds go to local food pantry, such as Helping Hands in Knoxville. Other money goes to Church World Service. Finan says that group helps relieve hunger worldwide through development work. He says that includes both immediate needs for food as well as root causes. Finan says Church World Services provides educational programs that help people in more than 100 countries learn how to grow their own food or find clean, healthy water. For more information on how to get involved this Sunday, call Finan at 842-5148.
All of the funds raised through the walks will be used to benefit hunger relief, 25% of the funds raised through Pella’s CROP Walk will be allocated locally through the Pella Food Shelf. The walk begins at 3pm on October 7th. It begins and ends at the Tulip Toren. There will be pre-walk entertainment provided by Central’s Flying Pans, a steel drum group. That starts at 2:30.
