Blake Riggen set the tone of the game 48 seconds into the contest with a 25 yard pick six, Pella Christian’s defense forced six turnovers, as the Eagles walked away with a convincing 58 – 20 victory over the Colfax-Mingo Tiger-Hawks. The game took a little under four hours to complete, due to a one-hour lightning delay. Riggen also caught three touchdown passes and picked off Tiger-Hawks quarterbacks a total of three times. Coach Darryl De Ruiter said the quick start by Riggen was extremely important, considering how the last two games had gone. “Our first five games which we won, every one of them we got off to a good start,” De Ruiter said. “The two games we lost, we didn’t. So getting off to a good start was important, and what a great way to do that.” The Eagles ended up with 439 total yards of offense, with 307 of them coming via their ground game. In the last two games, Pella Christian has rushed the ball for 585 yards. The win pushes Pella Christian to 6 – 2 on the year, and 3 – 2 in Class 1A District 7. A win this week was important for the Eagles, as their next opponent is on the road at Mount Ayr to close the season out.
