“Just a Game” One of Many Life Lessons Learned by Eagles Football Players

Though their season may have ended in a loss at the hands of St. Albert Council Bluffs on Wednesday, the Pella Christian Eagles football team is full of winners. High school football is unique in the aspect that the athletes play for themselves and for their community, and regardless of their record or how the season ends, they all learn valuable life lessons on the field. This is especially true for the Pella Christian Eagles football team, according to assistant coach, Darryl De Ruiter. “When you get that finality [of the season], it’s tough,” De Ruiter stressed. “That’s a great life lesson, too. That’s part of what our football program is all about. It’s not just about playing football, it’s not just about X’s and O’s, it’s also about life and building young men and character. Losing and ending your season, those things, and doing that together, that’s all part of it. Yeah, our season ends at 6 – 4, and you look back and a lot of teams would love to be 6 – 4, so yeah, it’s a good season.” De Ruiter also mentioned that another big point Coach Rich Kacmarynski and the entire coaching staff try and stress is that it’s just a game and the “sun will come up tomorrow.” Again, the Eagles finished the 2012 season with a record of 6 – 4.
