Tonight’s round one Class 4A volleyball regionals match features two Little Hawkeye Conference teams squaring off against one another. The Lady Dutch finished the regular season winning 9 of their last 11 games and with a winning record at 18 – 16. Pella actually closed regular season play with a match against Newton, a game in which they lost in five sets. The key to Newton’s win over Pella this past Tuesday was mid-game adjustments, and because they played them so close to their round one confrontation, head coach Catie Brand is planning on making some changes herself based on how she saw the Cardinals play. “They made adjustments throughout the game, that I think eventually gave them an edge in the match,” Brand explained. “We are going to make adjustments, too. We have certain things we’ve identified. Strengths of their team that we’re hoping to balance with our defense, and then also play more to our strengths and hope that that can overcome some of the things that we did not accomplish last week.” The Lady Dutch realized two of their three team goals so far; finishing with a winning record and finishing strong in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Their third goal is to win their round one tournament match. You can find out if Lady Dutch realize their third goal and get one step closer to the state tournament tonight during that game at Newton that starts at 7:00 p.m.
