The Pella High Lady Dutch volleyball team had a spirited attack in the first game that led them to an early win, but the Solon Spartans proved to be too much for the Lady Dutch as they won in four sets, 25 – 23, 19 – 25, 11 – 25, and 12 – 25. Solon had troubles serving for the length of the match, but Pella could not capitalize on some opportunities to gain momentum late in sets. Pella head volleyball coach, Catie Brand, said that her girls just ran out of gas after their game one victory. “I think we had so much energy those first couple of games that we spent a lot of it really early,” Brand tearfully said. “These girls play with heart, and I think they just sort of played out of themselves a little bit the first game, and sometimes it’s hard to sustain that. Then Solon really turned it up a notch as well, and they’re an excellent team with a lot of weapons and we had a hard time stopping them” With Oskaloosa sweeping Indianola in three sets, Solon will advance to play the Indians in the regional finals this Tuesday in Victor. The defeat ended the volleyball season for five seniors on the Lady Dutch squad. Pella’s final record on the year is 19 – 17.
