With a district title within reach, the Pella High football team is trying to keep their focus on the task at hand. The Little Dutch’s task this evening is a meet-up with rival Oskaloosa. Head coach, Jay McKinstrey said his team had set a goal to come away with the Class 3A District 8 title, but they didn’t bring it up again until after last Friday’s victory. “We just feel good about the position our kids have put themselves in,” Coach McKinstrey said. “We didn’t talk much about it until after we beat Norwalk and we’re sitting at 4 – 0 and we’ve got two games left. We have a rival game coming to town this week, but it’s a big deal. It’s a goal that they’ve set and it’s within reach. You want them to understand it’s there and how you go about going to obtain it and keep going in that direction, and you use that as a motivator for the kids.”After tonight’s game against the Indians, Pella will be staring at a district title in the face when they play at Winterset next week for the season finale. Pella enters the game 5 – 2 on the year and 4 – 0 in Class 3A District 8, while Oskaloosa is 1 – 6 on the year and 1 – 3 in district play. Tonight’s game will be live on 92.1 KRLS with Jamie Brockman and Randy Sikkema doing play-by-play duties. Pregame coverage starts at 6:45 with kickoff at 7:30.
