Pella Boys Runner-Up; Knoxville 6th; Pella Girls 7th Cunningham, Jones Earns All-State

Evan Jones was the top finisher for the Pella boys’ cross country squad, while Gabi Meirick was the top finisher on the girls side, as both teams finished in the top ten at the state cross country meet in Fort Dodge on Saturday. Jones’ time of 16:05 was good enough for sixth place overall on the boys’ side. The team finished with 74 points, just 12 behind first place Decorah. The Little Dutch’s top five runners all finished in the top 20. For the girls, Meirick’s time of 15:19 was good for 14th place overall, while the top five runners for the Lady Dutch finished in the top 60. The girls finished in seventh place as a team. The Knoxville boys finished in sixth place just one point out of a top five. Wick Cunningham ended an outstanding career with a third place finish in a time of 15:41 seconds earning him All-State honors. The 2nd-5th place runners for Knoxville all finished within six seconds of each other in places 42nd-54th. The state meet marks the end of the 2012 cross country season for both schools.
