You know your season has been successful when you partake in the “sign” ritual in Pella for making it to the state tournament in your respective sport. The Pella High Boys’ and Girls’ cross country teams did just that on Thursday; one final “photo op” before their trip to Fort Dodge later today. Last year, the boys came away with a first place win at the state meet over Decorah, while the girls finished third to Wahlert and Assumption. Today is the day all of their hard work and preparation comes full-circle, and they’ll be running on one of the easiest courses they’ll run on all season. Fort Dodge’s course is mostly level, with a few winding hills to conquer, head cross country coach, Doug Cutler, told KNIA/KRLS Sports. Cutler also said that his teams have been training very hard to prepare for today’s race, but the last couple days have been recovery days. The state cross country meet at Fort Dodge kicks off with the girls’ race at noon, and the boys’ starting at 12:30 p.m.
