The Pella High Football team started the season 1 – 2. Then they won a game against rival Knoxville by the slimmest of margins. Then came two blowout triumphs over Carlisle and Chariton, and now the only thing that seemingly stands between the Little Dutch and a Class 3A District 8 title is a win over the preseason district favorite Norwalk Warriors. It’s funny what a little win streak can do for morale, says head coach, Jay McKinstrey. “We’ve always thought if we can get three wins in a row like we have now, and the kids start to believe and are playing well and keep improving,” Coach McKinstrey continues, “We’ve had quite a bit of success against Norwalk in the past; and when we’re playing pretty decently, our kids believe, anything can happen. We really believe, though, if we keep improving and go in there, yeah, we’re going to be in the game.” Norwalk has an unblemished record thus far in the season, just recently coming off a victory over Winterset last Friday 37 – 22. Both teams are 3 – 0 in District 8 play, the record that matters, and if Pella wins, they would clinch a spot in the postseason, with only Winterset being the final threat to a district title. Friday night’s game is at Norwalk, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
