The Marion County Board of Supervisors recently approved an application to help fund a new wastewater system in the Attica and Pershing area. Marion County Environmental Health Coordinator Cory Frank tells KNIA/KRLS News that the application is for a $300,000 Community Development Block Grant. The rest of the $3.5 million project would be financed through a rural development loan from the USDA. Frank says that much of the Pershing and Attica area is not up to standards in terms of treating wastewater and the Iowa DNR has cited a few private systems for their inadequacies. The area meets the income guidelines for maximum funding as well.

The Supervisors approved this application last year, but it was not accepted. Frank is optimistic about its approval this year, saying that it usually takes a couple of tries to receive approval for grants for projects like these.
