The Lady Dutch volleyball team welcomed rookie coach, Catie Brand this past season. The newly crowned head coach was looking to set a precedent in her first year, at the same time being successful. To start, she wanted to make sure her players were setting the bar high enough for them to jump over and also focus on how they could individually accomplish those goals, as well as changing up the feel of the volleyball program.
“Well, I think we really wanted to start by kind of changing the culture a little bit of the program,” Brand said. “What was the feel like in the gym? How committed were girls being? Were they setting individual goals? Were they trying to reach goals?”
Brand also told KNIA/KRLS Sports that she wasn’t just looking at her first year as coach for the program, but also looking into the future as to what kind of program her entire coaching staff wanted to build. She also focused on what having the green and white jersey on the volleyball court meant and what the program looked like. Pella High’s 2012 volleyball season ended in the Class 4A regional semifinals to Solon, losing three sets to one.
