It was a tough way to end the high school volleyball season for the members of the Pella Christian Eagles squad. After going up two sets to none over Eddyville-Blakesburg in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A regional tournament, the Eagles would watch the Rockets come back and sweep them in the next three games in come-from-behind fashion to advance to the semifinals. Though some players were blaming themselves in the locker room for the loss, Eagles head volleyball coach, Cindy Nikkel, said it was a big learning opportunity for her girls, saying that after dropping the tying set to even the match up at two games apiece, she wanted her girls to learn to “live in the now” and focus on game five instead of being stuck on losing game four. Nikkel said it’s a lesson that can translate to everyday life situations, too. The head coach also told KNIA/KRLS Sports that she talked to her team about how great of a job they did of fighting through that fifth game and, really, the whole match. The Eagles finished with a 16 – 18 record.
