McKinstrey Humble in Season-Ending Loss

A mark of a good coach is knowing when to concede to defeat and know which team is the better team and being able to admit as much. Knowing his Pella High football team perhaps didn’t play the best game they could, head coach Jay McKinstrey told KNIA/KRLS sports that even if they had given 110% against the Williamsburg Raiders on Monday, he’s still not sure if his Little Dutch squad would have had enough to overtake them. “[Williamsburg is] just an outstanding team,” McKinstrey said. “I don’t think we probably played our best game against them. At the same time, if we would have played our best game, I think it would have been very challenging for us to beat Williamsburg that night. They played extremely well and got a great football team, and have a chance to be very successful as they keep going here in the playoffs.” The Raiders’ run game was all over the Little Dutch’s defense, and quarterback Jacob Donohoe’s hard counts drew Pella offsides seven times. Williamsburg had a 40 – 7 lead going into half and eventually won the Class 3A round 2 match 54 – 27.
