A ten/two run to begin the fourth quarter by Albia helped lead the Lady Dees to a 40-35 win over Knoxville last night in the Panthers’ season opener. Knoxville held the upper hand for the most part during the game, however failed to score for the first 4:12 seconds of the final stanza and found themselves down by as many as eight points with less than two minutes left. Coach Jim Utiermarkt said too many dry spells was the difference. Ashley Hawkshead and Rikki Hall shared high point honors for Knoxville with eight points each. The Panthers were hampered with shooting woes with only 29% from the field and 1/11 from three point range. The boys game also saw a run by Albia in the second half as the Blue Demons stated the third quarter on a 12-2 run to take a ten point advantage to 20 in the first 2 1/2 minutes of the third period and win going away 74-46 over Knoxville. The Panthers had trouble shooting the ball from the field and Albia did not as the Blue Demons shot 57% for the game while Knoxville was held to 29%. Knoxville Coach Jeff Larson said while the shooting will come, the intensity must improve. Gerrit Davis led Knoxville with 16 points as both the boys and girls squads start off the season with 0-1 records. Knoxville will travel to P-C-M tomorrow night for a girl/boys twin bill starting at 6:15.
