Rivalry Game Turning Point of Lady Dutch Volleyball Season

The players on the sidelines of the Pella High volleyball team, after getting off to a slow start early on in the year, point to their inner-city rivalry game against Pella Christian as the turning point of their season. Having a new coach who brings new philosophies to the table is hard, especially for older players on the team (regardless of the sport), and the Lady Dutch shook off the early season frustrations and started to “buy in” to what new head coach, Catie Brand, was trying to implement. Coach Brand tells KNIA/KRLS Sports, that she’s very happy that her team was able to come out with a win over a formidable opponent such as the Eagles, and see so many light bulbs start to turn over her players’ heads.
“We were very fortunate to come out ahead in that match,” Brand said. “We tied with Pella Christian in the conference standings. We were a pretty evenly matched team with them. Really, in a way, our whole team seemed to buy in that night. They played together and they finished a match the way we needed to, and I do feel that was in a way a turning point for our season.”
Pella finished with a 19 – 17 record.
