Returning five seniors with some varsity experience, Bret Grier and his PCM girls basketball team have February 26, 2013 circled on their calendars, as that is the date the opening round of the state basketball tournament kicks off in Des Moines. Grier told KNIA/KRLS Sports, that that was the goal he and his girls set for the team in the preseason. Their first road block they’ll have to maneuver around is Nevada, as they come to town tonight to open up the 2012-13 season. The Cubs return two seniors, but also bring in a lot of height, as their varsity squad lists a freshman, Kati Cassabaum, and a junior, Christine Ausman, both at six feet tall. Nevada finished last season with a record of 9 – 13, while PCM is fresh off a 13 – 10 regular season in 2011-12. Look for the Mustangs to try to gain the edge in rebounding, despite the difference in height. Last season, PCM won the regular season matchup, 54 – 50. Tonight’s game between the two schools tips off at 8:00 p.m.
