Saints’ Defense Point of Pride for Conrad

In Eight-Man football games, you don’t typically see much on the side of defense, but for Ryan Conrad and his Melcher-Dallas Saints, defense is what gave them a chance to win all of their games. The Saints’ head football coach also told KNIA/KRLS Sports that since Coach Jim Crozier came in, his team has been very strong and tough on defense.
“We really pride ourselves on being physical,” Conrad said. “Two years ago, [Jim] Crozier came and joined us and I delegated a lot of the defensive responsibilities to him and he’s done a great job. I feel the last two years we’ve had one of the best defenses in the district. If you look at our record and our score totals, we were able to play very well and control the game and we were able to run the ball on offense and do all of the things we wanted to do physically.”
The Saints never had a running clock on them during the season, and they even recorded two shutouts, which is practically unheard of in Eight-Man football, according to Conrad. The Saints finished the season with a record of 7 – 2.
