Two Senior Captains Look to Step Up for Little Dutch Basketball

Pella High head boys’ basketball coach, Mark Core, after losing a lot of leadership and experience after 2011-12, is looking at a couple seniors this season to step up for his team on and off the court.
“Our current captains are Josh DeWaard and Nathan Clayberg,” Core said. “I think it kind of begins with them, because I think that every team starts with internal leadership. Those guys from day one, going back to last spring, throughout the summer, even occasionally in the fall, we would have a chance to chat hoops. Certainly now that the season has begun, those guys have provided a lot of very strong leadership.”
Core also said another big key to this year is to see who steps up to be the next echelon of leader for his team. He said that this will be determined out of the public’s eye in the locker room. The Little Dutch will get their first taste of full varsity action on Friday at home against A-D-M in a girls/boys doubleheader, which will be aired live on 92.1 FM KRLS.
