Thousands of people across the nation will be putting down their lighters during the Great American Smokeout yesterday. Jenn Burbonnais, with Marion County Public Health, explains that the Smokeout is a way to encourage tobacco users to put down their cigarettes or chewing tobacco for a day and create a plan to quit. Burbonaais says that people who want more information on the steps to quit and support can contact the American Cancer Society. Decreasing the amount of tobacco users will also be the focus of Iowa Healthiest State Initiative in the upcoming year.
