Off to a slow 1 – 4 start, the Pella High girls’ basketball team has had a few fundamental problems that head coach Jerod Garland is looking to get corrected in the next few nights at practice. Their last game was a loss to Oskaloosa on Friday, 55 – 36, though the Lady Dutch got off to an 8 – 2 lead before the Indians started pressing in the back court. That pressure forced some turnovers with errant passes that led to easy layups the other way. Garland said that their recent skid hasn’t been from a lack of trying, but by being young and trying to get the chemistry together. The Lady Dutch are 0 – 1 in Little Hawkeye Conference play, and will have a bit of rest before playing Dallas Center-Grimes on Friday night.
