Pella Christian’s head girls’ basketball coach, Kevin Van Maanen said, after their 82 – 51 loss to number one ranked Western Christian, that he wished they had tried working it inside to their playmaker more often in the first half of the ballgame.
“A few miscues early, we let them get a ten point lead,” Van Maanen said. “We still think we had an advantage of Cori [Uitermarkt] inside. We just didn’t look for her enough. I think if we got it to her and got them in more foul trouble, maybe more aggressive, we’d be right there, but that’s how we learn, that’s why you play the game and get better.”
Coach Van Maanen also added that his girls seemed to shut down mentally towards the end of the game when everything started going the Wolfpack’s way. The Eagles’ girls have back-to-back challenges next weekend; starting with the face-off against Pella this Friday, then they host an 8 – 2 North Polk squad the day after.
