It was a successful night on the hardwood for both Pella High basketball teams as the girls won 57 – 45 over A-D-M and the boys won 61 – 50. For the girls, they rode the strong play of Jessica Holterhaus, and the bench came up big in relief of the starters to propel the Lady Dutch to victory over the Tigers. Mallory Lynch, MacKenzie Gustafson and Lindsey Pothoven combined for 29 of Pella’s 57 points off the bench and stayed out of foul trouble for the majority of the game. A-D-M would not go away late, with Pella up by seven with around a minute left, when Jackie Sunderma put the game on ice with a clutch basket. For the boys, they got into some foul trouble early, but roared back in the second half with a 16 – 0 run at one point to win their 2012-13 season debut. Bryce Bortscheller led both teams in scoring with 19 points, while Isaac Naaktgeborn added 11. The Lady Dutch are 1 – 1 on the year and the Little Dutch are 1 – 0, and each team will play Mount Pleasant today at 2:30 p.m.; the girls will go on the road to face them while the boys get to host the defending state champions.
