With a 5 – 1 record at the end of 2012, the Pella High boys’ basketball team has a lot of positives and negatives to contemplate over the next couple of weeks. One of the negatives, according to head coach, Mark Core, would be their defense allowing the opposition to enter into the lane after being beaten by the dribble. Core told KNIA/KRLS Sports that the dribble-drive is what hurt them in their game against Carlisle, which saw their 15 point second half lead evaporate down to a one point advantage in the waning moments of the contest. Another disadvantage of giving up the dribble-drive is giving up an open look should the ball-handler kick it out to the open man if help comes late. Pella’s doubleheader versus Grinnell on Friday was postponed to January 10, and they won’t play again until January 4, when they play rival Pella Christian.
