Playing in their second game in as many days, the Pella High boys’ basketball team handled the defending state champion Mount Pleasant Panthers on Saturday, winning 62 – 49. A big key to victory for the Little Dutch was their defense only allowing the Panthers one shot per possession, as Mount Pleasant only tallied three offensive rebounds in the game. Bryce Bortscheller led the way with 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting, and he was 6-of-11 from downtown, while Nathan Clayberg grabbed 17 rebounds. For the Lady Dutch, they had a little trouble on the road, falling to the Mount Pleasant girls’ team, 58 – 48. The Pella boys improve to 2 – 0, while the girls’ record drops to 1 – 2. Each team will next be in action on the road at Ballard on Tuesday; a doubleheader that will be aired on FM 92.1 KRLS with the tipoff of the girls’ game at 6:00.
