After an even, and sometimes ugly, first half of basketball, the Pella Christian Eagles’ girls’ basketball team remained undefeated with a strong second sixteen minutes and a 57 – 31 defeat of Martensdale-St. Mary’s on Monday. The first two quarters were marred by the Eagles’ inability to rebound and playing not-so-stellar defense. After being tied at 20 going to the locker room, Pella Christian’s offense and defense stepped up big and only allowed 11 second half points. Paige Engbers led in scoring with 25 big points, while Tessa Howerzyl had nine. It’s a 5 – 0 start for the Eagles’ girls, and they’ll join back up with the boys on Friday when they travel to Newton for their next test in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
