The Twin Cedars’ basketball teams escaped with victories Monday night over Davis County. The Sabers’ boys played an ugly game that was filled with turnovers on both sides of the ball, but were still able to come away with a 48 – 44 win. Head coach, Alan Stewart, said that over the first three quarters, his team was not making smart decisions on offense, which was leading to poor shot-taking and turnovers. The girls won their fourth straight to begin the season with a narrow 47 – 46 win over Davis County. The Sabers’ had a 14 point lead going into the fourth quarter, but almost coughed it away when the Mustangs implemented a full-court press and some just-as-intense half-court pressure in the fourth quarter. Alee Hugen led the way with a 27 point effort and 13 rebounds. The Twin Cedars’ boys team is now 2 – 1 on the season while the girls also improve their mark to 4 – 0. Each team will have three days off before continuing their home stand against two tough Lamoni squads Friday night.
