There wasn’t a close game in the lot as both Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars handily won their basketball games over Mormon Trail and Seymour, respectively. For the Melcher-Dallas Saints, the boys had no problem handling Mormon Trail, with a final score of 64 – 33. Kenneth Waddle had 25 points and Ross Dawson added 14. Looking on the girls’ side, Melcher also hardly had to break a sweat in a 50 – 23 victory over the Mormon Trail girls’ team. The boys improve back to .500 at 3 – 3, while the girls also up their record to 3 – 4 overall with a 2 – 1 Bluegrass Conference mark. For Twin Cedars, the boys and girls did not have a problem at all with Seymour, winning 79 – 14 and 59 – 17, respectively. The girls had a 25 – 3 lead after one quarter, and Alee Hugen finished with 16 points. Most of the starters were pulled after the first half was over, as the running clock went into effect midway through the third. On the boys’ side, Otis Roby set a school record for steals in a game with 12, and he added 24 points to the winning effort, while the team as a whole only committed four turnovers in the entire game. The Sabers’ girls are 6 – 0 thus far while the boys improve to 3 – 2. Next up for Melcher-Dallas is a rematch against Murray, while Twin Cedars will split up, as the boys play Diagonal on Friday, and, because Diagonal couldn’t field a girls’ team, the Sabers girls will wait for the boys to return to play Iowa Christian Academy at home this Saturday in a doubleheader.
