It was a good day of basketball for both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams for Pella Christian on Saturday, with each team coasting to a victory. The girls were on the road to face Roland-Story, and got off to a nine-nothing lead early and finished with a 60 – 41 win. Head coach, Kevin Van Maanen, told KNIA/KRLS Sports, it was the defense that was the key to victory, as they put on a full-court press that Roland-Story was having a hard time fighting out of. The offense was clicking for the Eagles, as they drained seven 3’s and had a lot of easy chances under the basket. Cori Uitermarkt led in scoring with 16, Lauren Jungling had 14, and Paige Engbers tallied 13. For the Eagles’ boys, they were also phenomenal on both sides of the ball, winning by a final of 72 – 37 over Washington at home. Pella Christian denied the Demons any points over a span of seven minutes, and ended the first half up 36 – 20. Austin Ver Meer had 16 points, while freshman sensation Sebastian Baugh added eight off the bench. Both the Eagles’ boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have a 2 – 0 record to start the year, and will return home for doubleheader action against Oskaloosa on Tuesday, which will be streamed live on kniakrls.com.
