Incoming Knoxville Fire Chief Nick Bonstell has been working to secure a fire prevention grant. City Manager Harold Stewart tells KNIA/KRLS News the FEMA grant would help secure smoke detectors for homes and provide educational opportunities. The grant is worth $168,000; Stewart says the city would likely match $8600 when submitting the application. He says the Council has been supportive of the idea and has asked Bonstell to continue working on it. The new fire chief will be moving to Knoxville soon and will begin his official first day February 11th.
