Drought Conditions in Marion County are holding steady as the frozen soil of winter refuses to take in moisture. About a third of the state is in extreme drought still. Marion County is in the lowest drought category with worse drought conditions at the county line to the north. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says that weather patterns in the Pacific aren’t providing enough data to determine if we’ll have enough rains in spring to reduce the drought, but says that generally in a year following extreme drought, we have lower precipitation than usual.
