The Pella Christian boys’ basketball team finally conquered a Heart of Iowa Conference opponent, beating Gilbert last night by a final score of 64 – 49. Coach Larry Hessing told KNIA/KRLS Sports that the game was close early, but his team went on a run towards the end of the first half and didn’t give any ground the rest of the game. Despite picking up his fourth foul early in the third, Austin Ver Meer still scored 11 points, while guards Blake Riggen and Riley Stursma each bucketed 14 points to lead the Eagles, who have now won a season-high four in a row, and their tenth game on the year. The 10 – 4 Pella Christian boys will join back up with the girls for a conference match-up against Newton to begin their second time around the Little Hawkeye Conference on Tuesday.
