With a pair of impressive victories over Washington Tuesday, the Pella High varsity basketball teams will carry plenty of momentum over into their doubleheader tonight against a very tough Grinnell team. The Lady Dutch capitalized on several turnovers committed by the Demons on Tuesday to beat the previously No. 14 ranked Demons 50 – 40. The last time Pella and Grinnell came together, the Lady Dutch overcame a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win 54 – 52. The Tigers carry a three-game winning streak into tonight’s contest. Pella’s boys have won three straight themselves, and also had a close game against the Tigers go their way a few weeks ago in a 58 – 56 triumph. Assistant coach, Jim Dingeman, said that their success recently (and this whole season) can be attributed to their ability to zero in on their opponents’ star offensive player and shut him down. The Little Dutch will need to close the door on Eli Dunne and Joe Nowasell tonight, who average right around 14 points per game apiece. Tonight’s doubleheader will be streamed live on kniakrls.com with Cory Houser and Randy Sikkema calling the action from the bleachers, with pregame coverage set to begin at 6:00 p.m. There will also be a delayed broadcast on 92.1 KRLS immediately following Pella Christian basketball coverage.
