A fire in downtown Knoxville was extinguished quickly and did not cause any significant damage. The fire started behind the Shopaholics sign on the 300 block of East Robinson Street at around 11pm Wednesday. Knoxville City Fire and Rescue and Knoxville Rural Fire crews were on scene quickly and put out the flames. Interim Fire Chief Greg Higginbotham says they’re still investigating the cause of the fire, which is unknown at this time. He says there’s no real significant damage to either the shop or the apartment above, although firefighters did have to poke a hole in the wall of the apartment through to the outside as well as a hole in the roof of the apartment through to the ceiling. The fire itself was mainly contained to the sign and wall behind it. The Red Cross is helping accommodate the family living in the apartment.
