A fire in downtown Knoxville was extinguished quickly last night. The fire started behind the Shopaholics sign on the 300 block of East Robinson Street at around 11pm. Knoxville City Fire and Rescue and Knoxville Rural Fire crews were on scene quickly and put out the flames. Interim Fire Chief Greg Higginbotham says they’re still investigating the cause of the fire, which is unknown at this time. He says there’s no real significant damage to either the shop or the apartment above, although firefighters did have to put a hole in the wall and floor of the apartment to contain hot spots. The fire itself was mainly contained to the sign and wall behind it. The Red Cross is helping accommodate the family living in the apartment. The Knoxville Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
