It may have been not the most conventional way to win a game Saturday night, but the Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad shook off the cobwebs of a heartbreaking loss on Friday to subdue Carlisle 50-38. The Panthers and Wildcats slugged through a sloppy first half that saw the team shoot a combined 34 free throws and Knoxville finishing on a eight/nothing run to lead 21-18. The Panthers were able to get distance and keep Carlisle at arm’s length for the second half going 14/17 from the line to seal the win. Meredith Cunningham led Knoxville with 17 points as the Panthers improve to 5-6 on the season. The boys raced out of the gate with a 15-4 run to start the game, but Carlisle responded with a 16-0 run of its own, and pulled away as the game went to post a 61-46 win over the Panthers. Coach Jeff Larson said Carlisle ability to get offensive rebounds was the key. Gerrit Davis scored 14 points to lead Knoxville who now fall to 0-11 on the season. Both Knoxville squads are off until Friday when they travel to Grinnell.
