The Knoxville City Council is getting started on budget discussions, and City Manager Harold Stewart says this is the time for the public to get involved. After reviewing revenue projections at this past week’s City Council meeting, Stewart explains they’ll now start moving into expenditure projections and balancing the budget. He says upcoming meetings are the best opportunity for the public to be involved in the process; by the time they have the official public hearing in March, they’re usually too close to their March 15th deadline to make any significant changes.

2013 budget session dates (all are open to public):
January 25th – Council Tour of Departments (8am-5pm)
February 11th – Go over budget expenditure highlights and differences from last Fiscal Year (5pm)
February 14th – Staff recommended balanced budget (5pm)
February 18th – Final Council adjusted budget; if necessary (5pm)
February 18th – Regular Council meeting; set public hearing for March 4th (6:15pm)
March 4th – Budget hearing and adoption of final budget (6:15pm)
March 15th – Deadline budget to County Auditor
