Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The day honors and remembers the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the most prominent members of the civil rights movement in the 1960s. King was assassinated in 1968. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983. Municipal and county offices will remain open today, but state offices, including the Court of Clerk’s office, are closed. Knoxville resident John Leeper was among the hundreds of Central College students that saw King speak in Pella in 1967. He says what he remembers most about King was his persona and ability to connect to people. You can hear more from Leeper during Let’s Talk Knoxville Monday afternoon.
