The Pella Christian basketball teams swept another team Saturday, as Des Moines Christian fell at the hands of the Eagles. The girls were led by Cori Uitermarkt who had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds to propel her team to a 55 – 47 win. Lauren Jungling also reached double digits with 16 points, as did Paige Engbers who added 11. The Eagles also had a big advantage on the boards, grabbing 36 to their opponents’ 25. The boys’ game was a tad more interesting, coming down to a last second shot by Sebastian Baugh, giving the win to the Eagles, 53 – 51. The Lions tied it up at 51 with almost an NBA-length three-pointer with about a minute left. Pella Christian held onto the ball until about ten ticks were left on the clock, when they found Baugh for a short-range shot to give him 20 points, and more importantly, the lead and the ballgame. Jared Van Wyk had 11, and Austin Ver Meer threw in a double-double of his own with ten points and 11 boards. The Eagles’ boys are now 8 – 4 overall, and next up for both Pella Christian teams is a trip to Grinnell on Tuesday.
