In front of a capacity crowd on their home floor, Pella Christian swept their cross town rivals winning the girls game 45-33 followed by a 78-68 win in the boys game. After taking an eight-point lead into the second half, Pella Christian gradually pulled away thanks to dominant play inside from post player Cori Uitermarkt, but each time it appeared they would close the door, Pella fought back to close within single digits. Eagles coach Kevin Van Maanen said it was great to see their inside-outside game come together late. Uitermarkt led all scorers with 20 points while Jessica Holterhaus led Pella with seven. Pella Christian improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in LHC play while Pella fell to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Both boys teams came out blazing, but neither could take control of the other early on. The Eagles were red hot from long range connecting on seven first half three pointers but still held just a 40-38 lead at halftime as Pella refused to go away. The second half was much different as Pella Christian went on a 33-16 run in the first 12 minutes using inside-outside play to build up a 19 point lead and put the game away. Pella coach Mark Core said he was happy with their effort overall, but they gave the Eagles too many opportunities throughout the game. Pella Christian had five players score double figures led by Blake Riggen with 16. Pella had 11 different players score led by Isaac Naaktgeboren and Josh Dewaard with 17 and 10 points respectively. Pella Christian improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the LHC while Pella slipped to 5-2 and 1-1 in LHC play. Pella Christian hosts North Polk in a girl/boy doubleheader tonight while the Pella boys play host to PCM also this evening.
