The first of two rescue training programs for Pella First Responders will be held on Saturday. This week’s training will be on trench rescues. Trench rescues are a process of bracing the walls of a ditch to extricate someone trapped after a collapse. Ditch collapses can occur during construction as crew dig up or place lines in a trench. Pella Ambulance director Doug Polking says that they don’t need to use these skills often, but when they do, it helps to have worked through the situation before. The training will consist of a class in the morning, and hands on training with a trench set up that is brought in on a truck to the Fire Department.
