Prepared to go 10 – 0 to finish off 2012, the PCM basketball teams were ready to face Saydel for one final test before the holiday break. However, after the snow storm rolled into the area and made travel inconceivable for a few days, that game was postponed to a later date. According to PCM’s athletic director, Greg Bonnett, that doubleheader has moved to February 8, which was originally a “bye” for the boys, while the girls would be just about to enter tournament play on that date. Head Mustangs’ boys’ coach, Fred Lorensen, said that the reschedule actually benefits his team.
“It’s the last Friday of the regular season before the tournament series begins,” Lorensen said. “We have a little bit of a gap in our schedule, we were going to go from Tuesday until the following Monday or Wednesday before we play in the tournaments, which is a pretty long break at that time of the year. So this really fills that gap in our schedule really well for us.”
Lorensen adds that as it stands now, everything will work out well schedule-wise, unless inclement weather forces another postponement later on in the year. PCM faces a true test of their grit to begin this new year, as they play Nevada in a battle of the two undefeated Heart of Iowa Conference members this Friday, and then travel to Pella to play the Little Dutch the very next night.
