It was another frustrating night of offense for both Pella Christian basketball squads Tuesday, as Norwalk came away with Little Hawkeye Conference victories in both the boys’ and girls’ contests. The Eagles’ girls could only score four points in the first quarter, and were down by as many as twelve, until they went on a 12 – 2 run towards the end of the first half to get within four. Unfortunately, the Eagles could not get any closer than two late in the ballgame, falling to the Warriors 43 – 33. Head coach, Kevin Van Maanen, said that their recent struggles can be attributed to his team stumbling out of the gate. Lauren Jungling had 11 points to lead the Eagles in scoring. The Pella Christian boys also got off to a slow start, scoring three points in the first quarter and four in the second; only making one field goal in the first 16 minutes. They would come back to score 15 in the third quarter, and were tied late in the fourth, but the Eagles just couldn’t find a shot to give them a lead and momentum late, dropping a close 40 – 35 contest. Austin VerMeer had 17 points in the loss, leading all scorers. The girls are now 7 – 3 overall, the boys are 6 – 4, and both Eagles’ teams fall to 3 – 1 in the conference. Each team will rest for another few days before welcoming Knoxville into town on Friday.
