Head coach of the Pella Christian boys’ basketball team, Larry Hessing, has talked a lot about keeping things loose in practice during tough stretches of games. In the Eagles’ latest game at Grinnell, Hessing said that it was everything but loose in the locker room before the game. The head coach told KNIA/KRLS Sports that it was extremely quiet during the fourth quarter of the girls’ game, which, according to him, is generally a pretty good sign. Hessing said the dead quiet meant his team was focused and ready to come out, which was key against one of the top teams in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Eagles did prevail 53 – 42 to improve to 9 – 4, and have since beat Gilbert for their tenth win of the season, with a conference record of 5 – 1. Pella Christian is at home on Tuesday against Newton to begin their second time through conference play.
