Neither Dutch basketball team could figure out Simpson Wednesday night as the Storm blew past Central in a doubleheader sweep. Twenty-nine turnovers and cold first half shooting did the Dutch women in, in a 73 – 56 loss. Alyssa Schwartz had a team-high 17 points, while freshman Alyssa Henrich had a career high 12 points and led the team with seven boards. The men’s game was back-and-forth, featuring 12 ties throughout the game, but a late field goal with 36 seconds left by the Storm’s Elijah Knox put Simpson over the top for good, in a 75 – 70 defeat of Central. Four players had double-digits in the scoring column for the Dutch, led by Branden Stubbs who had a game-high 22 on 9-of-15 shooting. It was a disappointing loss for the Dutch men, as Simpson had come into the match-up at the bottom of the conference with a 5 – 12 overall record. Central’s women fall to 9 – 9, the men are 9 – 8, and each team sinks to 2 – 5 in the Iowa Conference. This Saturday, Central will play Buena Vista for the second time this week to begin their last trip through the conference.
