Spring Rains Critical for Ag Season

The drought has begun to worsen again across the state despite a thaw last week which brought melting snow. Marion County is still in the least intense drought designation, but more severe drought levels are straddling the Marion County line to the north, with both Jasper and Polk Counties in severe drought. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says what will be most important is the rains of spring. He says if Marion County receives precipitation at even slightly above normal levels in the spring we will be set for the agricultural season.
