The Marion County Board of Supervisors approved moving forward with the Courthouse Clocktower renovation project during their regular meeting yesterday. Currently, the bottom of the clocktower floor has pieces of concrete that are chipping off and landing on the belltower floor located below. If it’s not fixed soon, the concrete could puncture holes through the rubber belltower floor, allowing water to leak through the roof.

The Supervisors approved seeking bids on a project that would replace the concrete floor, restore any steel beams that are corroded, and replace and/or tuckpoint dilapidated bricks within the interior of the tower.

Engineering firm Calhoun-Burns estimated that construction costs would be around $63,500. They’ll begin drawing up construction documents so the Supervisors can get quotes on the project in the near future.
